The MSC was founded in Genoa (Italy) on April 20th 2001 as a non-profit Consortium of companies operating in the sector of safety equipment for motor sports. It was founded to develop a constructive dialogue with the Sport Authorities and the Public Administrations in order to improve safety during motor races by providing expertise and experience of the companies. 

As stated in the articles of the association, the MSC aims at:
- promoting and developing safety in all its aspects, in the field of car, motorbike and motor competitions;
- studying and interpreting regulations regarding products and accessories for motor races, which have been issued by national and international institutions which supervise motor sports.  The consortium shall promote, if it is the case, change of regulations ensuring they are in harmony with national and international legal obligations.
